The duration of this qualification is 20 weeks 175 includes 12 weeks workplace hours

Career Path:

This qualification is at AQF Level 4 (Certificate IV).

At this level, students are provided with a moderate level qualification assisting the student's preparation for an autonomous and supervisory role within the workplace.  At AQF level four, students are provided with a broadened range of skills than those at AQF level three that enable the individual to perform a greater variety of tasks and roles.

Occupations may include: Day Activity Worker, Assistant in Nursing, Support Worker, Carer, Care Service Employees, Field Officer,  Personal Care Assistant, Home Care Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Field Officer, Community Support Worker, Accommodation Support Worker, In Home Respite Worker, Personal Care Worker, Community Care Worker, Community Support Worker, Disability Service Officer, (in some jurisdictions), Community House Worker, In-Home Respite Care, Personal Care Giver, Accommodation Support Worker, Care Team Leader.

The key clients for this qualification are workers in this occupational group primarily in residential facilities with clearly defined organisational guidelines and service plans. These workers carry out activities related to the maintenance of an individual's personal care and/or other activities of living. Workers at this level are required to have an understanding of Indigenous culture and history and to work with local communities in the provision of service. These workers may provide services to individuals with complex needs, and/or work with groups of older people. Work may include training and support to promote independence and community participation. This may be provided as part of activities and programs in a variety of settings including residential and centre-based programs. These workers report to service managers and liaise with professionals and other service providers. Workers may be required to supervise and/or co-ordinate a limited of other workers. Alternatively, this qualification could be used by small, medium and large aged care services enterprises seeking to re-educate or train existing staff, or induct new management. Small, medium, large, Aged Care enterprises, Aged Care Workers seeking to gain higher qualifications, Aged Care Managers and those wishing to gain entry to the Aged Care Industry in a Management capacity.
